North Yorkshire in the North of England is a great base for a family holiday or short break in England. The area around our Keldy Lodges offers a wealth of places to visit and stunning landscapes to explore.

The market town of Pickering, just seven miles away, provides a range of shops, a handy supermarket and leisure centre with a pool.  Pickering is the base for the North York Moors steam railway where you can travel to Whitby on the Yorkshire coast.  A journey on the magnificent steam train is not to be missed!  Step back in time and experience the cosy-wood-panelled carriages and friendly conductor service as you sit back and admire the stunning scenery of the North Yorkshire Moors.  A bus to Pickering from Cropton Cabins (and back) stops at the site reception at regular intervals.

If exploring the beautiful Cropton Forest whets your appetite for more, The Forestry Commission Visitor Centre at Dalby Forest is 13 miles away, featuring a GoApe! high-wire forest adventure course.

For great family days out, the port of Whitby on the Yorkshire Coast is approx 27 miles away.  Here you can visit the historic Whitby Abbey, founded in 657 AD or take the 199 steps to the parish church of St Mary, whose church yard was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula.  The sandy beaches at Scarborough are 24 miles away from Cropton Cabins so dig out your bucket and spade and spend a fun day at the seaside!   Scarborough is also home to Flamingo Land Theme Park & Zoo, one of the UK’s top theme parks.

If cities are more your thing, a 35 mile journey will take you to the city of York.  Here you can spend the day shopping and exploring the stunning York Minster Cathedral.
