At Forest Holidays we are committed to ‘going green’ and limiting our impact on the environment. The concept of a Forest Holidays Break is environmentally friendly in its self. With sites in the UK, carbon footprints are reduced as there are no flights, and we encourage our guests to leave the car and walk and cycle to explore the forest.
The appreciation and enjoyment of our natural environment are central to the Forest Holidays experience and we recognise our responsibility to protect the environment in which we operate. We are not only responsible for how we conduct business within our forest and loch locations, but we are also passionate about preserving the environment for our guests, visitors, employees and neighbors to enjoy for years to come.
As a means of continual improvement and to receive recognition for its efforts in this area, Forest Holiday’s have joined the green awarding body, the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS).
Strathyre currently has a 'Silver' GTBS Grade. Here are just a few things that our Strathyre team have put in place to help their green credentials:
- Having a ‘green champion ‘ on site
- Encouraging customers to:
Turn off taps
Turn off lights when a building is not in use
Recycle their waste
- Displaying local public transport on notice boards
- Making the site more wildlife friendly by having:
Bug hotels
Bird Boxes
Bat boxes on site and on the Cabins
- Installed 11 energy wizards saving devices into Golden Oaks and Silver Birch Cabins to try help reduce energy consumption from the hot tubs
- Projected ranger activities to include building of new mini red squirrel assault course in various site locations around site, to promote the importance of the plight of the REDS and give our guests the opportunity to view the RED's around site
- Rangers use nature materials from the forest for art and craft sessions, to avoid where possible a commercial aspect - showing that we can make better use of natural forest materials
