McLaren Leisure Centre on the outskirts of Callander which offers a swimming pool with a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, a fitness suit and indoor climbing wall.
After a day exploring the forest or nearby villages, enjoy a pleasant meal at The Lade Inn. Less than 4 miles from Strathyre Cabins, The Lade Inn offers traditional Scottish food, served in a friendly, traditional environment.
A drive along the Duke's Pass, which links Aberfoyle and Callander, is not to be missed. Climbing to a height of 800m, the views from the pass are breathtaking and at the highest point there is a car park and viewing point.
The David Marshall Lodge Visitors' Centre is located on the Duke’s Pass, approx 15 miles from Strathyre Cabins. Here you can learn about the local wildlife, follow a trail in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park or discover if you've a head for heights at the nearby GoApe! high wire adventure course.
Slightly further afield, the town of Stirling is approximately 19 miles away and offers a great selection of high street shops, restaurants and top visitor attractions. In the heart of the town sits Stirling Castle with its proud associations with William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. Why not visit The Old Town Jail and experience a live prison tour where characters will bring the Victorian building back to life or visit the historic Stirling Old Bridge and Wallace Monument. If history isn’t your thing, enjoy a wild family day out at Blair Drummond Safari Park. Here you’ll get close to lions, zebra, giraffes, chimps and much more!
Approx 13 miles from Strathyre Cabins is the historic Doune Castle, a magnificent late 14th century courtyard castle. Here, visitors can explore the nature trail in the castle grounds or take an audio tour of the castle narrated by Monty Pythons’ Terry Jones. Hear about the castles exciting history as well as stories from the making of Monty Python and the Holy Grail which was filmed here. Enjoy the stunning views from the battlements which look down on the River Teith and out towards the Menteith Hills and Ben Lomond.
