Ranger-Led Activities

Unique to Forest Holidays’ sites is the range of ‘Forest Experience’ activities; Led by our Forest Rangers who have inside knowledge of the forest and its inhabitants you’ll see things you could well miss on your own.  They know what to look for and can read the woodland environment like a book, although the book changes its title often, depending on the season and what’s happening that day.

Here’s just a few of the Ranger-led activities available at all our sites.

Birds on Tour

From owls to birds of prey, there’s a world going on above your head.  Our Rangers are familiar with all the inhabitants of the treetops and can help you differentiate the year-round
population from the seasonal visitors.

Night Watch

At night the forest becomes a magical place with an entirely different cast of animals awakening as others go
to sleep. Learn all about Moths, owls, badgers and a whole host of other creatures that live their lives bathed in moonlight.

Tree Stalking

On a stalking trip you’ll discover what trees actually do,
their role in nature, their importance to planet Earth. You’ll also get the chance to identify the insects and animals that make each tree their home.

Awesome Animals

Wonderful but elusive deer. Badger families playing without a care.  Mini beasts crawling around the forest floor.

The Rangers

Can explain what makes the forest habitat particularly suitable for each different kind of animal. If you’re lucky you may just capture one, with your camera of course!

The Forest Awakes

As the first rays of the sun begin to penetrate the canopy, flowers raise their heads for the day and the forest creatures start to stir, and of course the birdsong is at its most enthusiastic.

This is a unique opportunity to see a side to the forest that most visitors miss.
