Q. What is Forest Holidays?
A. Forest Holidays is a joint venture Public/Private Partnership
which came into being in May 2006. It is co-owned by The Forestry
Commission and The Camping and Caravanning Club. The company
owns and operates three Cabin sites
and twenty-one Camping and Caravanning
sites on Forestry Commission land in some of the most stunning
forest locations in Great Britain. It holds 75-year leases on
all these sites.
Q. What Does Forest Holidays Do?
A. Forest Holidays provides unique breaks for people who
are looking for a less commercialised holiday. Forest
Holidays' Cabin sites and Camping and Caravanning sites
are located in Britain's stunning forests where the pace is
unhurried and nature is literally on your doorstep.
Forest Holidays' provides great Cabin holidays where you can get away from the
hustle and bustle of the town and relax in your own Cabin in the
woods. The perfect base from which to explore the local area,
Cabins range from the practical Evergreen and Copper Beech to the home from home Silver Birch and luxurious
Golden Oak,
complete with hot tub. New for 2008, Forest Holidays have
introduced Tree Houses as an extension to some Silver Birch
and Golden Oak Cabins - a truly unique escape.
Forest Holidays' Camping and Caravanning breaks are always
holidays to remember. The sites are located in beautiful
forests and are perfect for those wishing to explore the woodland
on foot or bike, or those who wish to relax under the trees and
enjoy the sights and sounds of the forest.
Forest Holidays also offer Holidays to go. Pre-erected tents and
pitched touring caravans are available for those who do not have
their own equipment, and motorhomes are available to hire, with
preferential rates at Forest Holidays sites, if you wish to
explore further afield.
Experiencing the unique environment of the forest is integral to
Forest Holidays offering. Outdoor activities such as hill
walking, fishing, bird watching, mountain biking, horse
riding and skiing are available, depending which site you
choose.
A Forest Holidays break offers you the chance to find out
more about the wonders of nature, either on your
own or with the help of a Forest
Ranger. Most of the year you can join in walks
and other activities led by experienced and knowledgeable Forestry
Commission Rangers who will help you discover the wealth of
wildlife around you. A Forest
Experience Card gives you discounts off Ranger
Activities as well as pitches at Forest Holidays' Camping and
Caravanning sites.
If you prefer to explore on your own, you'll find forest drives
and visitor centres, picnic sites, cycle routes, rivers and
streams, dramatic mountains, deep valleys and peaceful forest
glades, depending on which Forest Holidays site you choose.

Q. Where are the Sites Located?
A. Forest Holiday sites are situated in places of outstanding
natural beauty in Forestry Commission woodlands. Each site is
unique however and presents a different aspect of the British
countryside to guests. This ranges from Scottish
lochs to the high moors to deciduous woodlands. This awe-inspiring
view of nature is integral to the Forest Holidays’ experience.
The Cabin sites are located near Liskeard in Cornwall (Deerpark), on the North York Moors
(Keldy) and in Scotland’s
Trossachs (Strathyre).
The Camping and Caravanning sites are located throughout the UK,
with four sites in Scotland, one in Wales and 16 in England, of which 10 are within the
New Forest.
Q. What are the development plans for Forest Holidays?
A. Forest Holidays has embarked on a 5 year £40 million
investment programme to upgrade existing sites, introduce new
products and develop new sites within Forestry Commission
land.
The second phase of the cabin investment programme is underway
with the introduction of an upgraded range of cabins at all three
sites. For a totally unique holiday experience we have
introduced new luxurious Tree Houses at each of our three cabin
sites
The camping and caravanning investment
programme has benefited Ardgartan, Ashurst, Cashel, Glenmore, Hollands Wood, Holmsley, Postern Hill, Roundhill and Setthorns with upgraded facilities to
include brand new showers and toilet blocks. Spiers House in North Yorkshire has been
completely refurbished and now includes new hard standing and fully
serviced pitches.
Q. What are Forest Holidays ‘Green’ Credentials?
Forest Holidays is part owned by The Forestry
Commission, the Government Department responsible for
ensuring the nation’s forests provide sustainable timber, nature
conservation and public recreation. The other co-owner is The Camping and
Caravanning Club, which has a 100-year history of
respect for the environment and has an active Countryside Care
section. These facts guarantee Forest Holidays’ Green credentials
are safeguarded for the future.
