9 Easter events you won’t want to miss

Easter is just around the corner. Follow our Easter trail around the UK and choose the events you simply can't miss this year.

From a Speggtacular in Suffolk to a Tartan Skiddadle in Scotland, we bring you the best Easter events near to our nine UK forest locations. And, wherever you choose to stay, we also have lots of our own eggciting Easter activities for you to enjoy.

1. A military Easter in Cornwall

March the kids up to Cornwall's Regimental Museum, where they are promised lots of Easter family fun throughout April until Easter Monday. The museum's home is The Keep, an atmospheric grade II listed building in the historic town of Bodmin, a 25 minute drive from Deerpark.

2. Follow the Easter bunny in Portsmouth

At the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth, Wilf, the Royal Navy pet rabbit has been leaving muddy paw prints around the galleries. As the children solve the clues he leaves behind they might also learn a few surprising facts about how sailors lived on board a ship in years gone by. Stay at Blackwood Forest which is three quarters of an hour away by car.

3. Baylham House Farm Easter Speggtacular

The Easter Speggtacular at Baylham House Farm is their biggest event of the year. It’s the perfect Easter event with new-born lambs, Easter bunnies, and a fabulous treasure hunt. Well worth the 50-minute drive from Thorpe Forest.

4. The Gruffalo at Beechenhurst in the Forest of Dean

The Gruffalo has been spotted in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire! Download the app from Forestry Commission England and take the kids on a Gruffalo hunt at Beechenhurst Lodge. Stay at our cabins at Forest of Dean for a true forest experience. There are more Gruffalo trails across the country, many near to our other locations.

5. Easter Adventure Quest at Bolsover Castle

A king, a butler, a Roman centurion, or even a monk from centuries ago will be on hand to help you on your quest as you explore Bolsover Castle. Crack the clues to win a chocolate prize on the treasure trail. This English Heritage property, which is just a 25 minute drive from Sherwood Forest, underwent a £1.3m makeover recently, bringing it right up to date - for a 17th Century castle.

6. Moor Easter fun in Yorkshire

Easter events abound in the North York Moors National Park. At the National Park centre in Danby you can join in with Marvellous Mammals, Amazing Owls, Happy Hare Day, and Minibeast Monsters, as well as trying your hand at worm charming! At Sutton Bank, which is a 39-minute drive from Cropton and Keldy, you can celebrate the arrival of spring with themed crafts, trails, and treasure hunts.

7. Go fishing for Easter eggs in Oban

Easter at a sea life sanctuary? Never say we don’t offer variety with our Easter egg hunt recommendations! The Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary in Oban is fantastic and well worth a visit at any time of the year. But with an egg hunt – well, what are you waiting for? There are 1,000s of mini eggs waiting to be found and the hunt will take place on Easter Sunday. Ideal if you are staying at Ardgartan Argyll.

8. Castle crafts and a Tartan Skiddadle in Scotland

Stirling Castle is hosting a weekend of Easter family fun. Step into history for a few hours with heritage themed crafts in the magnificent castle setting. Closer to Strathyre, on Easter Saturday (15 April) look out for the runners in the Great Tartan Skidaddle as they finish their 31 mile Duathlon in Callander. Expect a riot of tartan and tweed!

9. Enjoy a Happy Easter with Forest Holidays

We have lots more Easter fun for you when you stay with Forest Holidays. Meet the Easter bunny, have fun decorating chocolate pizzas, and enjoy Easter treats in the Forest Retreat. Find out more here. We’re also very excited about our Shaun the Sheep Spring Trail, which you can join in with at all our locations until 7 April. After that we have a fun-filled Easter trail to follow. Book soon though, as cabins are selling fast!

Have a cracking Easter!
