Dog friendly days out in the UK

Looking for dog friendly activities in the UK? It can be a struggle to find dog friendly days out, dog friendly attractions and dog friendly things to do, but here are a few suggestions that mean that every member of the family - including the dog - has a great time.

Dogs love forests!

Dogs absolutely love forests, and we have 11 spectacular forest locations where you can enjoy a holiday in a log cabin and find lots of things to do with dogs near to you. Stay at Sherwood Forest, for instance, and you have 3,300 acres of pine and mixed woodland to explore. Or take a break with your four-legged friends to Forest of Dean, one of Britain’s most beautiful forests. You can walk through the forest from our cabins to Symonds Yat, where the views over the River Wye are lovely, and the local pub, the Saracens Head, is dog-friendly too.

Dog friendly family days out

Everyone loves a ride on a steam train. Stay at Blackwood Forest and enjoy the Hampshire countryside on the Watercress Line -dog tickets just £1. Or choose Cropton or Keldy in North Yorkshire for the North York Moors Steam Railway, now the star of its own TV show. In beautiful Snowdonia, our location at Beddgelert even has its own station on the Welsh Highland Railway line, the UK's longest heritage railway.

Over in Norfolk, stay at Thorpe Forest and enjoy a great dog friendly day out on a Norfolk Broads river trip. And down in Cornwall, if you are looking for dog-friendly things to do when staying at Deerpark, the Eden Project is a great idea. While dogs are not allowed in the biomes, they are well catered for in the outdoor areas, with lovely long walks, dog bowls and even an undercover dining area.

The best dog walks in the UK

Dogs are a great excuse for getting out in the fresh air for long walks. Stay at Strathyre in Scotland and enjoy a dog friendly day out near Callander, our local town. The hills around the town are dotted with woodlands, waterfalls and leafy walks that the dogs will love. Over at Ardgartan Argyll, explore the Arrochar Alps, where you can choose which mountain to tackle depending on the age and agility of your dog – and you! The South Downs in Hampshire, near to our Blackwood Forest location, offer another lovely dog friendly family day out, and take in the countryside of the famous Watership Down books.

Dog Friendly Forest Holidays

We love dogs here at Forest Holidays and our locations are truly dog friendly. You can bring up to four dogs with you and enjoy walks from your cabin doorstep. Most of our locations have doggy stations beside the Forest Retreat for cleaning and feeding your dog after a long walk, and dogs are welcome inside the Forest Retreat too, so you can relax over a meal or a drink without worrying about leaving the dog outside. There’s plenty of things to do with dogs near to our locations and lots of dog friendly days out, so you know you can include the dog when you book your next family break.
