Pine martens at Strathyre

Close encounters with a rare species

Our new neighbours at Strathyre are a group of cheeky pine martens. About the size of a domestic cat, the pine marten is a member of the Weasel family and Strathyre is one of the few places in the UK you will get to see them. These rare and engaging creatures are delighting our guests, who have been keeping a diary of their antics. Click on the link below to find out more about pine martens, see our exciting video and hear Jack Black, our Forest Ranger, talk about their history and habits. Scotland is home to some of the UK's rarest and most magnificent wildlife species. Both our Scottish locations, Ardgartan Argyll and Strathyre, are ideal bases for a Scottish wildlife holiday.
