Walks for all abilities at Ardgartan Argyll, Scotland

If you don’t want to get back in the car once you arrive on your holiday there are lots of scenic walks direct from your cabin. Try the shorter Riverside or Boathouse walks, both under 3.2km, to whet your walking appetite. Then, for a longer walk, take the Cat Craig Loop. This 6.4km walk has great views of Loch Long and there are picnic spots along the way. Build on a further 6.4km miles and some stunning views with the Coilessen Glen Loop.

Glenbranter, Argyll Forest Park

A 30-minute drive from Ardgartan Argyll, Glenbranter is one of the gems of Argyll Forest Park. To follow the Waterfall Trail, start on the banks of the of the Allt Robuic amidst the remnant of an ancient oak wood. Climb to the waterfalls and feel as if you are stepping away from the world. Rest in the wildlife hide for the chance to see red squirrels, roe deer, buzzards and woodpeckers.

    Ardgartan Argyll is situated within the Arrochar Alps, a steep and characterful range of mountains that signal the start of The Highlands. Take the Glen Loin and Coiregrograin walk, which offers fine views of the mountain peaks of the Arrochar Alps. For more experienced walker, a short and strenuous trail with rewarding views can be found along the Beinn an Lochain hill walk.

    Bag a munro

    The Arrochar Alps have among their number, no fewer than 5 Munros (mountains over 3000 feet) and some strenuous climbing is guaranteed across the peaks of Ben Vorlich, Ben Vane, Beinn Ime, Beinn Narnain and Beinn Bhuidhe. The most popular mountain in these parts, The Cobbler, also known as Ben Arthur, is not a Munro but a Corbett (2,500- 3,000 feet). It’s a challenging but worthwhile climb with a late scramble to get to the distinctive peak. Ben Lomond is another nearby Munro, which has a gentle terrain – a great choice for your first Munro.

    The Great Trossachs Path

    The Great Trossachs Path links the West Highland Way with the Rob Roy Way. The section closest to Ardgartan Argyll stretches from the banks of Loch Lomond at Inversnaid to Trossach Pier on Loch Katrine and offers up waterfalls, mountain view, lochs and wildlife. It’s a full day’s walking, best suited to experienced walkers and you will need arrange transport back to your cabin.
