Our top tips for flora and fauna in winter
Winter is a beautiful time to explore the forest, giving you a different perspective from spring and summer months as bare branches make bird spotting a little easier.
Robins, blackbirds and thrushes are likely to be seen eating bright red berries which stand out from the waxy dark green leaves of our festive favourite holly bushes.
On those crisp snowy days there are signs that the forest is teaming with life, so be sure to look out for animal tracks in the snow.
Even in deepest winter there are signs of new life. Take a closer look at the branches of the trees and shrubs and you’ll see fresh buds forming, ready to burst open in the spring.

Our Forest Ranger adventures are a great way to learn more about the world around you and navigate off track to hidden areas of the forest. For thrill seekers out there, test your nerve and head for heights at Go Ape. There’s plenty of activities to enjoy in the local area so don’t forget to ask the team for their recommendations.
