Sauna FAQs

Are saunas good for you?

Saunas can be beneficial when used safely. Many people find they help with relaxation, easing muscle tension, improving circulation and supporting general wellbeing. However, they aren’t suitable for everyone, especially people with certain medical conditions.

For adults who are safe to do so, a private cabin sauna is a relaxing way to unwind together after a day exploring the forest.

Please speak to the team on location for more information on our sauna T&Cs.

Is a sauna good for health?

Regular sauna use can contribute to overall wellness by promoting relaxation, helping muscles recover after activity and supporting circulation. If you have any medical conditions affecting the heart, lungs, circulation, blood pressure, temperature regulation, or hydration - or if you’re taking medication that causes dizziness or dehydration, you should speak to a doctor before use.

Can you use a sauna if you’re pregnant or have health conditions?

The saunas across our locations are not suitable if you’re pregnant or a wheelchair user. Those with heart conditions, low blood pressure, high blood pressure, or other medical issues should speak to a doctor before using a sauna. When in doubt, always choose caution and seek medical advice.

What are the benefits of a sauna?

People often enjoy:

  • Deep relaxation and stress relief
  • Loosened muscles after walking, cycling, swimming or exercise
  • A feeling of warmth and comfort
  • Improved circulation
  • A sense of wellbeing

These effects vary by person and shouldn’t replace medical treatment.

How hot is a sauna?

Most saunas operate between 70°C and 100°C, depending on the type. Please read all safety guidance on location before use.

What to wear in a sauna?

What to wear in a sauna?

For the Forest Sauna at Glentress Forest, and The Nest’s private sauna at Delamere Forest, we recommend:

  • Swimwear.
  • A towel for sitting on and an extra for cooling down outside.
  • Flip flops and sliders are recommended for walking to and from the sauna but must be removed before entering.
  • Remove jewellery, watches and leave all your valuables in your cabin.
  • Remember to bring water to stay hydrated.

How long should you stay in a sauna?

A typical session is 10–15 minutes, especially if you’re new to sauna use. You can take breaks and re-enter later if you wish. Always listen to your body and leave immediately if you feel uncomfortable or start to feel unwell.

Does the sauna have a shower?

All our cabins have walk-in shower facilities for after your sauna experience. The Forest Sauna at Glentress Forst and The Nest at Delemere Forest also have a cold shower available for you to use on the decking on the sauna help you cool off and regular your body temperature.

Are sauna cabins suitable for families?

The saunas across our locations are adult only and for use by guests aged 18+.

Is there a cancellation policy for the sauna?

For our private saunas, cancellation policies are in line with the booking of the Golden Oak Cottage in Keldy and The Nest in Delamere Forest.

For the Forest Sauna at Glentress Forest, cancellations made more than 48 hours before the session start time will receive a full refund. Rebooking for an alternative date is also available subject to availability.
