Short breaks in Beddgelert, Eryri (Snowdonia)

The woodland around Beddgelert supports a wide variety of trees, providing interest throughout the year. One of these trees you can really watch change with the seasons is the hazel.

Native to the UK, the unmistakable yellow, catkins appear before the leaves during winter and hang in clusters, sometimes called ‘lambs’ tails’. Hazelnuts develop throughout the summer months and ripen into the Autumn, providing an important food source for many small mammals and birds.

There are plenty of wildlife walks around Beddgelert, but even whilst relaxing in the comfort of your cabin, there’s still plenty of wildlife to see….and hear!  Many bird species such as the song thrush can be heard even if you can’t see them. As its name implies, it’s an accomplished singer, easily recognised by its habit of repeating its chorus.

As the sun sets, watch emerging bats dart above the cabins catching their latest meal.
