If you do only one trail...

Lon Gwyrfai Path - Beddgelert to Rhyd Ddu

Our Beddgelert Snowdonia cabins are situated on the Lon Gwyrfai Path between Beddgelert and Rhyd Ddu. The round trip to Beddgelert is 5km and the round trip to Rhyd Ddu is 10.4km. Both rides offer breath-taking views of the mountains and valleys and both are on the Welsh Highland Railway route so you can hop on a train back if you feel like taking it easy. The path in both directions is wide with some tarmac surfaces and some lose stone and slate. It’s moderately challenging with much to reward your efforts.

Family friendly trails

Forest cycling adventures

The trails in Beddgelert Forest, next to our cabins, are suitable for a wide range of cyclists. The two notable trails are the Bedwen Trail and the Derwen Trail. They both involve a climb and you may encounter vehicles at some parts, but they offer a great challenge for families with older children. The easiest is the purple-waymarked Bedwen Trail which takes you 4km up to the lake, Llyn Llywelyn, where there is a lovely picnic spot, while the yellow-waymarked Derwen Trail is 9.5km with spectacular views east to Snowdon.

Mountain biking in Snowdonia

Real mountains to test your skills

Up in the mountains at Blaenau Ffestiniog, half an hour’s drive from Beddgelert Snowdonia is Antur Stiniog, a not-for-profit social enterprise, aiming to breathe new life into this old slate mining area with outdoor adventures. The seven fantastic mountain bike trails here are graded from blue to black, offering some spectacular downhill runs for enthusiasts. They also boast that they have the best mountain bike uplift service in the UK, taking the hard slog out of the adventure and leaving you with just the technical challenges and the thrills!

Long distance cycling

Mountains, rivers and forests

There some great National Cycle Network (Sustrans Cymru) routes in Snowdonia through mountain passes, along coastal trails and out on the open road. For a bracing coastal run, pick up Route 8 from Barmouth to Bangor. This 50 or so mile section is challenging and exhilarating in equal measure. And Beddgelert Snowdonia is the perfect spot for picking up the Ffordd Brailsford Way, which runs directly past the cabin location. This newly created route offers 50 miles or 75 miles of Snowdonia’s best cycling, taking in forests, mountains, castles and coast.
