Cropton is home to plenty of pet-friendly log cabins. You can explore the local area with your furry friend in tow. Many of the best walks start right from your cabin door…
Walk through the meadows surrounding the cabins or along the edges of the limestone tracks and look out for the various species of wildflower. Bugle with its deep purple flowers was traditionally used by herbalists for treating wounds and is loved by bees. Foxgloves, primroses and buttercups are commonly seen, along with Birds foot trefoil, imaginatively nicknamed ‘eggs and bacon’ for the bright yellow and orange colouring of their flowers.
Cropton is visited by many animal species including roe deer, badgers and hedgehogs. Amongst the many birds that visit, one that deserves a special mention is the turtle dove. Their numbers are in decline across the UK, but positive management in North Yorkshire, including Cropton Forest has meant that numbers in this region are now once again on the increase.
