What is WiFi Calling?
WiFi Calling means you can call and text – even if you don’t have a phone signal.
All you need is a WiFi connection and a phone that supports WiFi Calling. Although there is sometimes very limited mobile network coverage at our locations, guests should be able to use the WiFi supplied on all locations to make and receive calls.
Who can get WiFi Calling?
Most mobile networks in the UK now support WiFi calling but you will need a compatible device. We strongly advise you to check with your mobile network provider that they both support WiFi calling and your specific device before arrival at one of our locations. Below we have provided links to some of the most popular mobile UK networks pages listing their support for WiFi calling:
How do I set up WiFi Calling?
1. Connect your phone to WiFi on-location, either in the Forest Retreat, Forest Hub, or your cabin
2. Ensure you have the latest software installed
3. Switch on WiFi Calling in your settings.Â
If necessary, please refer to your specific device manufacturers own instructions on this step as this may vary based on device. Â
How does WiFi Calling work?
Making calls or texting with WiFi Calling
There is no need to download an app or plug anything in. Just call, text, and send picture messages as normal whenever you see the Wi-Fi Call indicator in the top left of your screen. It typically looks like this:
If you're on the move while making a call, you’ll automatically switch to 4G Calling as you move out of range of your WiFi coverage and vice versa to allow your call to continue. Please be aware that 4G coverage on-location is often very limited. If your phone doesn’t support 4G Calling or you don’t have 4G coverage, then your call will drop as you move out of WiFi coverage and you’ll need to call again once you have a mobile or WiFi signal.
Once you’ve connected to the Forest Holidays WiFi network your phone will reconnect automatically next time you’re in range. So, you only need to connect once on location.
Calling 999 with WiFi Calling
You can call the emergency services on 999 but be advised they cannot identify your location. So, you should use a fixed line phone where available to do so. Please be aware fixed line phones are only located in our Forest Retreats or Forest Hubs and are not supplied in our cabins.
