4 great reasons to head for the forest this summer

Summer holidays not booked? Or perhaps you’re back and feeling your summer is already over? Read on – and discover 4 good reasons to enjoy a late break in the forest.

Hurrah, it’s the summer holidays. Sun hats on, buckets and spades at the ready, this summer’s blockbuster novel just waiting to be read….

……or not. What happens when, for whatever reason, your holiday is not booked? Or it’s been and gone?  The summer holidays are stretching ahead of you, the kids are already bored and this year, amazingly, the barometer is set fair. There’s only one thing for it – head for the forest and enjoy the magic of a holiday that feels somehow more real than any Mediterranean poolside heat trap.

Not convinced? We give you 4 good reasons to make Forest Holidays your destination this summer.

1. You can have it all. Our locations are as much a part of the local area as they are a holiday destination in their own right. Days at the seaside, countryside walks, city trips and theme parks can all be enjoyed. Try Cropton or Keldy, both a short distance from the North Yorkshire coastline with the traditional seaside delights of Scarborough and the gothic intrigue of Whitby. Or Deerpark in Cornwall, just 7 miles from the pretty harbour towns of Looe and Polperro. Blackwood Forest is your base for Peppa Pig Land or even a day trip to London, and nowhere does English scenic beauty quite like the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean. Scotland is having a vintage year too with the Commonwealth Games and the 2014 Scottish Homecoming celebrations. Argyll and Strathyre are perfect bases.

2.You can find action and adventure. Are you the all-action outdoor adventure type? Well, if that’s what floats your boat, we are the all-action adventure holiday providers! You can bike your way across the forest trails, take to your canoe, Go Ape in the trees or try your hand at archery. Too tame? How about Gorge Walking at Argyll? Or 4x4 off-roading at Sherwood Forest? You can choose from a host of onsite activities and we also use experienced third party providers for some activities.

3.You can relax. Truly, fully, luxuriously relax. The peace and tranquillity of our Forest Holidays are commented upon time and time again by our guests. Stargazing from your hot tub, a relaxing massage in your cabin and pizzas ordered through your TV can all be part of the experience. An afternoon spent doing nothing but listening to the rustle of the trees and watching butterflies on the breeze will do more to relax you than any expensive day spa or exclusive members’ club. There is something about being in the forest that triggers good feelings in us all. The Japanese even have a word for enjoying the restorative powers of the forest: “shinrin-yoku” which translates as forest bathing.

4.The kids will have the times of their lives. And we mean kids of all ages, including mum and dad. What really makes a Forest Holiday for children and the young at heart are the Forest Ranger activities. AJ, the Forest Ranger at Keldy says his bush skills sessions are extremely popular and den building in particular brings out the dads who can’t resist showing everybody how it’s done! The forest is a giant playground and as our children go wherever their imaginations take them, we are reminded of the freedom and adventure of our own childhoods. These simple pleasures make lasting memories.

So, head for the forest before the summer is over and enjoy the break the suits you. We look forward to seeing you this glorious summer.
