Our cabins at Thorpe Forest are designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Underfloor heating is provided by air source heat pumps and wood pellet boilers which significantly reduce our carbon footprint. Join your forest expert for a schedule of exciting Forest Ranger activities!


Our Forest Ranger at Thorpe Forest, Mark, joins us after 24 years as a medic in the Royal Navy and 7 years in the ambulance service. Now an outdoor activities instructor with the Scout Association, he runs a large Sea Scout Group in Norwich where he lives. Mark's hobbies include growing his own fruit and veg at home and keeping tropical fish.

Wildlife at Thorpe Forest

From muntjac deer to tawny owls


In Thorpe Forest and the surrounding area of Norfolk you'll find an abundance of wildlife that make the forest their home. From the muntjac deer that regularly wander past our cabins to the hare often spotted in the arable fields. You’re also likely to hear the familiar hoots of the tawny owls and the rustle of hedgehogs, both spread throughout the forest!


In the meadow you may see kestrel, buzzards or barn owls flying nearby. Our sightings board includes notes from guests who have discovered a wide variety of birds including wrens, gold crest, willow warbler, redpoll, pheasants and many more. Be sure to add your sightings to the list during your stay!
