The nation were saddened to hear of the collapse of one of the most well-known names in the British travel sector, Thomas Cook. When the announcement was made, our thoughts turned to the thousands of Thomas Cook staff and customers who have been affected.

As a British grown company we wanted to do our bit and help some of those who were due to travel this week. Our team moved into action quickly, identifying available cabins across our 10 locations. We offered our cabins to those who were due to travel imminently through our social channels, in the hope that our small gesture would help some of those affected.

We have been overwhelmed by the response from the general public and are thrilled to have been able to offer complimentary cabins. To meet high demand, we also offered selected breaks for following week too. Our small team of holiday advisors have worked hard to respond to emails and book breaks for as many guests as possible. Some have even worked extra hours in a bid to help out.

One of those affected guests was Gerard and his family, due to travel with Thomas Cook that day, "Words can't describe how Monday morning felt, waking up to find out that Thomas Cook had gone into liquidation with immediate effect. By lunchtime we had a complimentary stay confirmed and our spirits and mood were immediately lifted. We just wanted to thank Forest Holidays for the incredibly generous stay we just had at Blackwood Forest".

Gerard and his family spent their time in Blackwood Forest getting close to nature, exploring the beautiful Hampshire countryside and of course, taking a dip in the hot tub on the decking. Gerard added, "We all had a wonderful stay and can't speak highly enough of the accommodation and staff".

We’ve been thrilled to offer families like Gerard's the opportunity to enjoy a few days away in these unexpected circumstances. We were also able to welcome several couples on their honeymoon, and were able to accommodate a number of larger family groups celebrating birthdays and special family occasions.

Our team have been genuinely delighted to be able to help with an alternative break in our cabins and whilst we haven’t been able to help everyone, or offer a like-for-like holiday in the sun, we hope that the guests we welcome over the next week enjoy a few nights away in Britain’s beautiful forests.
