Reasons to love winter

We love winter here at Forest Holidays - why wouldn't you? The crunch of the ground underfoot, the bracing breeze, the magic of Christmas in the air; there are so many reasons to love this season! Check out our list and let us know if we've missed any out!

2. Later dawn meaning you can stay in bed and still catch the sunrise!

3. Digging out all those forgotten-about cosy gloves, fluffy scarfs, and cuddly jumpers

4. Mince pies – who can wait until Christmas Day?

5. The crisp winter air

6. Shopping the new season fashions and finding the perfect ensemble for New Year's Eve

7. The Christmas adverts – who doesn’t love a dog having the time of his life on a trampoline?!

8. Pop-up calendar shops and choosing yours for the next 12 months – it's a big commitment so it's always best to pick up the calendar you really want at least twice and then walk around the store a few times before deciding to buy it!

9. Warming winter dishes – casseroles, pies, and mouth-watering puddings

10. Enjoying a cup of egg nog while exploring the Christmas markets

11. Shopping for the perfect gift and seeing the persons face as they open it

12. Seeing houses dressed up to the nines

13. Did we mention - Christmas?

14. Exploring the frosty forest trails

15. Children's excitement at meeting Santa and their anticipation on Christmas Eve

16. Real or faux, finding the perfect Christmas tree is the only big decision you have to make this season (well, that and how you're going to fit that massive turkey in the oven on Christmas Day!)

17. The classic Christmas songs that you just can't help but sing along to!

18. Finding all the decorations you'd forgotten you had and choosing the perfect spot for them on the Christmas tree

19. Beaming with pride at your little one's nativity play

20. Showing off your expert gift wrapping skills

21. Christmas jumpers – the worse the better!

22. Winter telly and the once-a-year specials!

23. December 21st is the shortest day of the year, after this the evenings get lighter and lighter!

24. Reconnecting with distant relatives and seeing family and friends, for what could be, the first time in a very long time!

25. Booing as loud as you can at the pantomime villain!

26. Bank holidays! With Christmas Day falling on a Sunday this year, it means a bonus bank holiday!

27. Curling up in front of a crackling fire

28. Christmas Day mimosas or champers!

29. Sweets… so many sweets…

30. Boxing Day leftovers

31. The first snowfall of the season

32. The calm between Christmas and New Year

33. Easter eggs in the shops before New Year's Eve – love it or loathe it, they only come around once a year so the longer there is to stock up, the better we say!

34. The fresh start that comes with a new year – what will it bring? New career? New house? Or maybe travelling somewhere you've never been before?

35. New Year's resolutions – whether you keep them or not, at least you can say you tried!

36. Burns Night on January 25th - "Fair fae your honest sonsie face, great chieftain o’ the pudding race"

37. Come February and spring is in the air and nature comes back to life after its winter hibernation

38. February half term when the kids are off school and the family adventures are in abundance

39. Spoiling your special someone on Valentine's Day <3
