A half-term break for all the family

Fancy a half term break that combines Halloween and outdoor thrills for the kids with relaxing me-time for the adults? Look no further than a Forest Holiday, where you can have just that.

If September brings with it a return to normality, a getting back to routines, a sense of order and purpose, it also brings a mild panic -  or thrill, depending on your age - about the already looming autumn half term break.

If this is the case in your family, you can relax. We have it covered. With spooky Halloween fun, exciting outdoor adventures and cosy cabin luxuries, this half term holiday at Forest Holidays is for everyone in the family.

Half term Halloween in the forest

Stay at any of our locations and join in the Halloween fun. Wherever you stay, you can enjoy the following:

• Halloween trail – we give you everything you need to follow the creepy forest trail and land a fantastic prize.

• Pumpkin carving competition collect your pumpkin and carving kit from the Forest Retreat and see what scary faces or fairy scenes you can carve onto it. A prize for the winner.

• Spooky Halloween quiz* – swot up on your phantom facts for a chance to win the quiz and be crowned the Halloween heroes. (*except Scotland)

• Ghost walk* – Take a night-time walk with stories of the ghostly legends of the local area. Be prepared for a few surprises! (*except Scotland)

There are additional activities planned for some of the locations too:

• Trick or treating at Blackwood Forest, Deerpark, Thorpe Forest, and Keldy.

• Witches and wizards walk – at Cropton and Keldy.

• Fancy dress party – at Blackwood Forest and Forest of Dean.

Outdoor autumn activities

Spooked out? Take a break from the ghostly goings-on to enjoy the colours of the forest. Hire bikes or simply set out on foot and remind yourself that we live in a country blessed with defined seasons where autumn, in all its glory, can stop you in your tracks. Kick the leaves, gather conkers and enjoy the crisp, colourful days.

Or take things up a gear. All our locations offer a wide range of exciting outdoor activities. How about canoeing at the Forest of Dean or Thorpe Forest, archery at Sherwood Forest, home of Robin Hood, or climbing a mountain at Ardgartan Argyll?

The Forest Rangers will be heavily involved with the Halloween activities but that doesn’t mean they haven't got time for their usual mix of forest fun – get the children out training for their Mini Forest Ranger certificates, learn some valuable skills on the Forest Survival session or join your Forest Ranger for a Night Vision walk – apart from ghosts and ghouls you may see deer, owls, foxes or, at Strathyre, the resident pine martens.

Half Term for the grown ups

It's your holiday too. We sometimes focus so much on keeping the kids entertained that we go back to work ready for another holiday ourselves.

Not so on a Forest Holiday. We know how to relax. And we know how to make sure that you do too. Our forest locations are unsurpassable; from the hidden valley at Deerpark in Cornwall to the lochside setting with mountain views at Ardgartan Argyll in Scotland. The gentle caress of the forest has an amazing effect on everyone who stays with us and brings a sense of tranquillity and a chance to reconnect with nature. You begin to relax as soon as you enter your cabin.

All our cabins are comfortable and cosy but stay in a Silver Birch or Golden Oak cabin and enjoy the feeling of sinking into your own outdoor hot tub at the end of an adventure-filled day. Through the silhouette of the trees, gaze upon a starlit sky that will amaze you – particularly if you live in a city, where the light pollution is high.

Tune into your In-cabin entertainment package for – well, if it must be a scary film, so be it, but our preference is for a gentle rom-com to match your mellow mood. Order a Evening In Treats pack for popcorn and sweets and get our delicious pizzas delivered to your door if cooking is off the agenda. We’re now on your time, so enjoy it before tomorrow brings a new set of adventures.

We hope we've given you enough information and inspiration here to book a Forest Holiday for your half term break. Have a look at our website for more information and hopefully we will see you in a few weeks' time. Everyone in the family will love it and you will return home relaxed, refreshed and… ready for Christmas.
